Editing

I'm an editor that loves supporting authors as they craft their story. It's never my job to tell you what to do; instead, my job is to remind you of the impact your words can have on others.

I have experience editing romance, romcoms, fantasy, dark fantasy, romantasy, western, sci-fi, and non-fiction.  I'm open to working on projects in all genres!

I do not edit dark erotica,  non-fiction, religious-centric books, or anything with romanticized non-consent. Feel free to reach out if you're wondering if your content aligns with my editing boundaries.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is typically the first round of edits you'll do with an editor. It focuses on the bigger picture. It's all about making your story clearer, more coherent, and effective. Think sandboxing ideas with a creative eye.

Line Editing

Line editing is all about readability, tone and consistency. Focus is on spelling, grammar, punctuation, readability, overall flow, and more. Not the final polish, but on the way! This typically happens as you prep for final edits.

Line and Copy Editing

Take Line Editing and add to it! Copy editing addresses technical issues in the text. It's more about catching typos, fixing grammar, and making sure the writing shines. You'll still want a proofreader after this!

violent Scene Coaching

Writing on-page violence can be challenging. It's easy to get in a rut of repeat movements and physics-defying fights. This service is great if you need help writing fight scenes or have questions about violence in storytelling.

Megan's Golden Rules of Editing

  1. Edit others as you would want to be edited.

  2. Point out a problem, but don't try to fix it.

  3. Keep the author's voice intact.

  4. Trust that the author knows what their readers want.

  5. Look for consistency in characters, story, world building and arcs.

  6. Always remind the author that their voice has a place in the literary world.
